So my clever Venus fly trap gnat controller was a bit of a failure. I think the gnats were too small and light that it wouldn't trigger the plant. And I had no idea that the plants needed humidity and lots of moisture. I walked in to check on the Venus fly traps and they were a little sad looking. I decided to retire them and create a nice, humid environment by putting them in terrariums. I saved plenty of jelly jars and they were the perfect size for these tiny plants....
By placing the plant on the lid, I was able to screw the jelly jar back on and voila....
the terrariums can be moved from room to room for best sun exposure. I hope these guys are happy now!
Oh that's too bad that didn't work. I was really excited that you found an awesome way of dealing with fungus gnats. I have a sundew but it doesn't seem to catch anything on its own either. I have to actually catch a fly for it and then put it on the sticky pads to feed it. What up with these lazy carnivores!? I have mine sitting by a sunny window in a bowl with an inch of water so that it's constantly boggy. At least it seems happy, even if it has turned out to be kinda high maintenance.
ReplyDeleteDamn!! Sundews don't work either!? I JUST bought mini sundew plants to replace the Venus fly traps. I guess I'll have to buy sticky paper to deal with my gnats. How can these carnivorous plants survive if they're so lazy?
ReplyDeleteMy sundews aren't lazy after all!! I just checked this morning and one of them has caught 2 gnats!! Yay!
ReplyDeleteHey that's awesome!!! Your sundews work way harder than mine.
